LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) confirmed that the CNIC of social media personality Arshad Khan, known as “chaiwala,” has been restored.
The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) reactivated Khan’s CNIC after completing a verification process.
Justice Jawad Hassan’s order stated that Khan’s grievance was fully addressed through Nadra’s verification board.
Petition Dismissed After Resolution
Arshad Khan had filed a petition in April against the blocking of his CNIC and passport by Nadra and the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports.
His counsel informed the court that, after LHC intervention, Nadra called Khan for verification and restored his CNIC.
Following confirmation from the law officer, the judge dismissed the petition, noting it had “borne fruit.”
Government Took Action at High Level
Barrister Umer Ijaz Gilani, representing Khan, said the matter was handled at the “highest level” of government.
He added that Nadra determined Khan’s CNIC was wrongfully blocked and took corrective measures accordingly.
Khan Grateful and Proud of His Identity
Speaking to media after the hearing, Arshad Khan expressed gratitude and reaffirmed his identity as a proud Pakistani.
He thanked the authorities and his legal team for helping resolve the issue swiftly.
From Tea Seller to Internet Sensation
Arshad Khan, originally from Mardan, became famous in 2016 after a photographer’s Instagram post of him pouring tea went viral.
He worked at Islamabad’s Sunday Bazaar when his picture turned him into an overnight sensation.
Soon after, a modeling agency signed him for several advertising campaigns, capitalizing on his instant fame.
