KARACHI: Three armed men on a motorbike robbed female students inside a college bus parked outside Jinnah Medical and Dental College here on Thursday.
The incident took place in the New Town police station area. The bus driver, Abdur Rehman, lodged a complaint and police registered a case.
According to the FIR, the suspects arrived on a single motorbike, entered the parked bus and targeted three female students. They snatched a gold chain from one girl after checking her carefully, took mobile phones from two others, and also stole a purse containing Rs8,000 in cash.
The driver told police that the robbers were between 25 and 30 years old. One was wearing a mask and another had a cap. After the robbery, the three men quickly rode away on the same motorbike. The driver said he could identify them if shown to him again.
Police have recorded statements from the three students. Officers say they are trying to get CCTV footage from the area, but no video has surfaced so far and the investigation has made little progress.
Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho took serious notice of the incident. He asked the Karachi Additional IG for a detailed report and ordered the immediate arrest of the suspects. The IGP also directed action against the concerned SHO and other security staff for failing to stop the crime.
The robbery has once again spotlighted Karachiโs growing street crime problem. The city recorded around 40,000 crimes last year, and more than 11,000 cases have already been reported in the first two-and-a-half months of 2026. Mobile phone snatching and motorbike theft remain the most common offences.
Questions keep arising about where stolen phones and vehicles disappear to. Police often say many are taken across provincial borders or dismantled and sold in parts.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over security near educational institutions and the effectiveness of police response in the area.
