KARACHI: Former President of Pakistan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Arif Alvi was granted protective bail by the Sindh High Court on Wednesday.
Alvi secured protective bail in three separate cases filed against him in Mianwali, Taxila, and Rawalpindi. These cases involve charges related to terrorism and other serious offenses. He was granted bail after submitting a surety bond of Rs 50,000.
In a separate development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to challenge the D-Chowk protest case.
CM Gandapur filed a petition against the case registered against him at the Secretariat police station following a PTI protest at D-Chowk. Through his lawyer, Haji Ajmal Khan Mohmand, Gandapur is seeking the removal of terrorism charges from the case.
The petition argues that the protesters were exercising their constitutional right to peaceful assembly, and the terrorism charges were unjustly imposed. The case was filed on November 26 at the Secretariat police station in Islamabad.
Gandapur’s legal team has requested the IHC to suspend the FIR and terrorism charges until a final ruling is made.
