Apple has launched yet another unconventional product — a $150 “iPhone Pocket” created in collaboration with Japanese fashion house ISSEY MIYAKE. While the brand calls it a minimalistic innovation, many people online think it looks more like an expensive sock for their phones.
The $150 Sock for Your iPhone
The new iPhone Pocket, priced at approximately Rs42,000, is essentially a small fabric pouch designed to carry your iPhone and other small essentials. For those who prefer a longer strap to sling it across their body, a “long version” is available at $230, roughly Rs65,000.
Apple describes the Pocket as “inspired by the concept of a single piece of cloth,” crafted through 3D knitting technology to ensure a seamless and stretchable design. According to the company, it can fit not only an iPhone but also other “pocketable items” — though users are not entirely convinced.
Design That Blurs the Line Between Fashion and Function
The design is said to “expand” to accommodate multiple objects while maintaining a sleek, minimalist aesthetic. When stretched, the fabric slightly reveals its contents, allowing users to glimpse their phone screen. Apple claims that the Pocket can be worn in several ways — handheld, tied to a bag, or worn directly on the body.
Still, the idea of carrying a smartphone inside what resembles a knitted sock has sparked widespread amusement. Many see it as a mix between luxury fashion and performance art, blurring the line between necessity and novelty.
Availability and Market Release
The iPhone Pocket will be available from Friday in select Apple Store locations and online in several global markets, including France, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and the US. Despite its limited release, the accessory has already become a talking point across design and tech circles.
Internet Reactions: Innovation or Inside Joke?
Apple’s collaboration with ISSEY MIYAKE has drawn mixed reactions. Some applaud the creativity and sustainable materials, while others question whether the world truly needed a luxury sock for their phones. The minimalist design philosophy may resonate with Apple’s devoted followers, but for most users, the hefty price tag remains the real shock.
Ultimately, the iPhone Pocket stands as another example of how Apple continues to merge technology with high fashion — sometimes in ways that leave the public wondering if they’re in on the joke.
