As opposition parties continued their sit-in at Parliament House for the second day, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry confirmed that the government will transfer jailed PTI founder Imran Khan to a hospital. Authorities aim to provide immediate medical care after concerns about his deteriorating eyesight.
Earlier, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar assured the public that specialists will conduct further checkups and treatment. He added that the ministry will submit a detailed medical report to the Supreme Court. Tarar urged all parties to avoid spreading โconjecture, speculations, and political mileageโ regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, opposition lawmakers demanded that authorities shift the PTI leader to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad after reports showed he has only 15% vision left in his right eye due to delayed treatment.
Opposition Sit-In Increases Pressure
The protests continued at Parliament House, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, and Parliament Lodges. Leaders including National Assembly Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Senate Opposition Leader Allam Raja Nasir Abbas, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, and former CM Ali Amin Gandapur joined the demonstrations.
PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja said that authorities confirmed they will transfer Imran to Shifa International Hospital. He added that one family member will have permission to meet him. Raja emphasized that the government must provide timely medical care because it is the former premierโs right.
Additionally, authorities arranged a telephone call between Imran and his sons. Aleema Khan, his sister, confirmed that he spoke with Sulaiman and Kasim Khan for approximately 20 minutes. She said he felt โextremely happy to hear their voices after such a long time.โ
Aleema stressed that personal doctors and specialists must now provide urgent treatment. She warned that the previous delays already damaged his eyesight. โWe cannot tolerate further delay. Doctors must act immediately to prevent permanent vision loss,โ she said.
Medical Updates and CRVO Diagnosis
Doctors recently treated Imran at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims). They diagnosed him with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye disorder linked to high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, and heart disease.
Pims Executive Director Dr Rana Imran Sikandar said that a senior medical team evaluated Imran before discharging him. Doctors performed the procedure in a sterile operating theatre, monitored him closely, and completed it successfully in about 20 minutes.
Next Steps for Care
Authorities will transfer Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital to ensure continuous specialist care. Meanwhile, opposition parties continue to demand that authorities provide transparent and timely treatment. They also insist that family members receive full access during his hospital stay.
