A Historic First in Governance
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced the appointment of the world’s first artificial intelligence-generated minister, marking a bold step in digital governance. The AI-based official, named “Diella”—meaning “sun” in Albanian—will manage public tenders to eliminate corruption and ensure transparency.
AI Takes a Seat at the Cabinet Table
Unveiling his new cabinet after a decisive May election victory, Rama declared that Diella is “the first government member who is not physically present but virtually created by artificial intelligence.” According to Rama, the system will oversee all public tender decisions, guaranteeing they are “100 percent corruption-free” and that funds are allocated transparently.
Diella’s Track Record
Originally launched in January as a virtual assistant, Diella has already demonstrated its utility by issuing over 36,600 digital documents and providing nearly 1,000 services via the e-Albania platform. Designed as a female figure dressed in traditional Albanian costume, Diella was initially intended to help citizens access online government services.
EU Integration and Anti-Corruption Drive
Rama, now serving his fourth term, will present the new cabinet to lawmakers in the coming days. Combating corruption remains one of the central conditions for Albania’s bid to join the European Union, a goal Rama has set for 2030. By entrusting Diella with oversight of tenders, the government hopes to strengthen credibility at home and abroad.
Apple Watch to detect hypertension
Breakthrough in Digital Health
Apple will introduce a new hypertension detection feature on its smartwatch next week, following clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The development marks a major milestone in wearable health technology, expanding Apple’s role in preventive care.
How the Feature Works
Unveiled during Apple’s September 9 event, the blood pressure monitoring tool will leverage the smartwatch’s optical heart sensor. It will track how blood vessels respond to heartbeats over 30 days. According to Apple, while the system will not diagnose every case of hypertension, it could alert nearly one million people globally who may otherwise go undiagnosed.
Global Rollout and Device Compatibility
The feature will be available across 150 countries, highlighting Apple’s intent to position the smartwatch as a global health companion. It will be accessible on the Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, Series 11, and the premium Ultra 2 and Ultra 3 models.
Expanding Apple’s Health Ecosystem
This launch follows Apple’s growing investment in health monitoring. The new capability adds to existing tools like ECG monitoring, fall detection, and blood oxygen measurement, reinforcing the company’s push to make its smartwatch a frontline health device.
Apple and the FDA have yet to issue official statements on the announcement. However, analysts believe the feature could significantly influence both consumer adoption and healthcare practices, particularly in preventive cardiology.
