An Air India flight bound for London crashed during take-off at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday evening, triggering a large-scale emergency response on the tarmac.
Preliminary reports indicate the incident occurred during routine operations, prompting immediate action by airport emergency services. The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services Department deployed over five fire-fighting units to the scene.
“A team of more than five fire tenders from multiple divisions across the city has reached the site. Fire control operations are being carried out as a precaution,” a senior fire official confirmed.
The flight was carrying 242 passengers, several of whom are feared injured. However, no official casualty figures have been released yet.
The exact cause of the crash and the extent of the aircraft’s damage remain under investigation. Airport authorities have launched an internal probe, and technical experts are currently assessing the scene.
Both Air India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are expected to release further statements as more details emerge.
This is a developing story.
