Security Forces Launch Immediate Retaliation
ISLAMABAD, Feb 26 – The Pakistan government said late Thursday that Afghan Taliban forces opened unprovoked fire on multiple locations along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, prompting what officials described as an “immediate and effective response” from Pakistani security forces.
In a statement posted by the information ministry on X, authorities said Afghan Taliban forces “miscalculated” by targeting several positions across the border. Consequently, Pakistan’s military responded swiftly to repel the attacks and secure affected المناطق.
According to the statement, clashes occurred in the Chitral, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram and Bajaur sectors. Officials added that Pakistani forces actively engaged hostile positions and targeted firing sources to prevent further escalation.
Heavy Casualties Reported Across Border
The government claimed that early reports confirmed heavy casualties on the Afghan side, with multiple posts and equipment destroyed during the exchange. However, officials did not provide specific casualty figures.
Meanwhile, authorities emphasized that Pakistan would take all necessary measures to safeguard its territorial integrity and protect its citizens. Security officials reinforced positions along sensitive border areas to deter additional incidents.
The development marks a sharp escalation in border tensions, which have periodically flared in recent months. Although both sides have previously pledged cooperation on border security, incidents of cross-border firing have strained diplomatic ties.
Officials reiterated that Pakistan seeks stability in the region; however, they stressed that any aggression would meet a firm and proportionate response. Security forces remain on high alert as monitoring and defensive operations continue across vulnerable sectors.
