Dr Ali Larijani, adviser to Iran’s supreme leader and secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), is scheduled to make “an unprecedented visit” to Pakistan, an Iranian official confirmed on Monday. The visit is expected to mark a significant step in the “strategic phase” of Pakistan-Iran relations, building on decades of diplomatic engagement.
Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, highlighted the visit’s importance on X, stating it would focus on strengthening bilateral relations amid a rapidly evolving global landscape and changing regional dynamics. He emphasized that the visit aims to meaningfully advance cooperation and strategic planning between the two nations.
Dr Larijani himself confirmed the visit in an X post written in Urdu, recalling Pakistan’s support for Iran during the 12-day war imposed by the United States and Israel in June. He described Pakistan and Iran as two key countries in the region for sustainable security and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to fostering brotherly relations with neighboring nations.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran, Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, welcomed Larijani’s visit, describing it as part of ongoing high-level interactions between the leadership of both countries. He noted that the visit would play a crucial role in further solidifying the historical and deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Iran.
During the June conflict, Pakistan extended consistent support to Iran on international platforms. The conflict began after Israeli airstrikes in Iran killed key military commanders and scientists linked to Tehran’s nuclear program. In retaliation, Iran launched ballistic missile attacks on Israeli cities.
Following the ceasefire, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi highlighted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s pivotal role in mediating the truce. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also expressed gratitude to the Pakistani premier in a telephonic conversation, appreciating Pakistan’s principled and unwavering stance in support of Iran during the hostilities.
Dr Larijani’s visit is expected to further reinforce bilateral cooperation, strategic coordination, and regional security collaboration between the two nations, reflecting the longstanding ties and shared interests of Pakistan and Iran.
