UAE to grant 10-year Blue Visa to environmental experts

Individuals engaged in environmental conservation efforts, advocacy, research, and related initiatives will be eligible for a special visa.

ABU DHABI: Environmental experts can now apply for the Blue Visa, a unique 10-year residency permit tailored by the United Arab Emirates specifically for them.

The introduction of the Blue Visa follows a decision by the UAE cabinet, reflecting their dedication to environmental conservation.

The special visa targets individuals actively engaged in enhancing the environment through conservation endeavors, advocacy, research, and related initiatives.

UAE authorities underscore that the visa acknowledges the importance of their efforts in safeguarding the natural world. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, announced the launch of the Blue Visa through social media channels.

In his announcement, he stressed the critical role of environmental sustainability in securing the well-being of future generations.

“The Blue Visa is more than just a residency permit; it embodies the UAE’s commitment to environmental preservation.”

By awarding this visa to exceptional contributors in the field, the UAE seeks to draw and retain top talent, nurturing innovation and expertise in environmental conservation.

This endeavor arrives amid a period of unprecedented climate shifts in the Middle East, emphasizing the imperative of united efforts to alleviate environmental decline. Historically, UAE residency visas have been valid for two years.

However, since the launch of the Golden Visa program in 2019 followed by the Green Visa scheme, the nation has taken the lead in providing long-term residency opportunities to diverse groups, including investors, entrepreneurs, highly skilled professionals, and now, environmental advocates.

Environmentalists working across different realms, whether in marine, terrestrial, or atmospheric conservation, are encouraged to seek the Blue Visa.
