PM Shehbaz Sharif Seeks Investment from UK, Highlights Country’s Potential in Various Sectors

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed Pakistan’s eagerness to attract investment from the UK and other nations, underscoring the country’s extensive potential across various sectors such as agriculture, food security, information technology, tourism, and mining.

During a meeting with British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott at the PM House, the Prime Minister discussed avenues for strengthening bilateral ties and fostering investment partnerships. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Professor Adnan Khan from the Economic and Evaluation Directorate of the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, London, also participated in the discussions.

Highlighting the enduring relationship between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing governance structures and implementing institutional reforms.

He further elaborated on the government’s efforts to revitalize the country’s economy through measures at both micro and macroeconomic levels. Notably, he mentioned the nearing completion of the digitization process of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), a significant step towards modernizing tax administration and enhancing transparency.

The British delegation commended Pakistan’s initiative to declare an education emergency and extended support for the country’s ongoing recovery endeavors.

The dialogue between Pakistan and the UK signals a mutual interest in fostering economic growth and advancing cooperation, reflecting the shared commitment to bolstering bilateral relations for the benefit of both nations.

As Pakistan strives to attract foreign investment, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of creating a conducive environment for business and investment, including providing incentives, streamlining regulatory processes, and ensuring security and stability.

He also highlighted Pakistan’s strategic geographical location, serving as a gateway to regional markets, and emphasized the potential for collaboration in infrastructure development and trade facilitation projects.

The discussions underscored the opportunities for mutual benefit and collaboration between Pakistan and the UK, paving the way for enhanced economic cooperation and shared prosperity in the years ahead.
