Minister aims to have the Islamabad model jail up and running within six months

Federal Minister for Interior, Mohsin Naqvi, paid a visit to the under-construction model jail in Sector-H of Islamabad on Friday, directing that the construction work be finalized within six months.

While inspecting the ongoing construction of the jail, the minister remarked that the project, which had been stagnant for 13 years, would now be completed within a six-month timeframe.

Mohsin Naqvi instructed the relevant officials to ensure the completion of the first phase of the prison construction within six months.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the seven-year delay in the project, Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the need for continuous construction work on the jail, urging that operations proceed round the clock to meet the deadline.

He further mandated the immediate initiation of the recruitment process for essential staff and assured the provision of necessary resources to expedite the project’s completion.

Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Mohammad Ali Randhawa, provided the minister with an overview of the project. He highlighted that the initiative to construct a jail in Islamabad commenced in 2011, yet despite several years passing, the project remained unfinished.

Randhawa outlined that the jail will initially accommodate 2,000 prisoners, with plans for expanding its capacity to hold an additional two thousand inmates.
