ISLAMABAD: Senator Irfan Siddiqui of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lauded the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as a “national hero” during the Senate session, emphasizing the enduring importance of upholding values and traditions in the country’s political landscape.
He voiced his opposition to the arrest of political leaders, advocating instead for constructive dialogue and cooperation between the government and the opposition. Siddiqui highlighted the precedent of engaging with political figures like Mahmood Achakzai and Maulana Fazlur Rehman, suggesting openness to similar interactions from the opposition.
In a critical remark, PML-N Siddiqui condemned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for allegedly advocating an attack on Islamabad, underscoring the need for responsible leadership and adherence to democratic norms.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the federal cabinet, reaffirming the government’s commitment to holding accountable those responsible for harming the country’s economy. He emphasized the necessity of making tough decisions to improve the economic landscape, noting the implementation of an economic referendum agenda aimed at driving progress through joint efforts.
Shehbaz took a dig at political opponents, questioning the transparency of the government’s operations and expressing dissatisfaction with the state of affairs prior to his administration. He cited progress in boosting exports and unveiled plans to combat fraudulent practices, such as the track and trace system in cigarette manufacturing.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister announced initiatives to curb power theft and enhance the transmission system, signaling the government’s proactive approach to addressing systemic challenges and promoting economic stability through comprehensive reforms.
