Iran and Pakistan in the shadow of civilization and shared identity

ISLAMABAD: Iran and Pakistan, as neighboring countries, stand as brothers and friends, sharing a deep-rooted history and civilization spanning hundreds of thousands of years. This historical connection has formed an unbreakable bond between the two nations, where luminaries such as Iqbal, Jinnah, Hafez, and Saadi are equally revered.

Pakistan is a shining gem in the Islamic world, with its people devoted to Islam and showing a deep appreciation for Iranian culture. This cultural and historical friendship has translated into close cooperation between the governments of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan across various fields, including economic, political, cultural, regional, and international.

Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri-Moghaddam wrote this article for Tehran Times, published on April 23.

Iran was the first country to recognize Pakistan’s independence in 1947, and in return, Pakistan was the first to recognize Iran’s Islamic revolution led by Imam Khomeini. This proud history serves as a guide for advancing the relations between these two dear neighbors.

Cultural, historical, and civilizational ties form the cornerstone of the relationship between Iran and Pakistan, rooted in Islamic faith, respect for the Holy Quran, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and the Ahl al-Bayt, as well as the rich heritage of the Persian language.

It is incumbent upon both nations and governments to strengthen these ties further, utilizing all available means. Social interactions, alongside government policies and the role of intellectuals and elites, will contribute to greater cultural awareness and mutual understanding.

Despite their long border, Iran and Pakistan have never had territorial disputes, and both are committed to transforming their borders into symbols of friendship, peace, and economic prosperity. This includes initiatives such as opening markets and border crossings to improve the livelihoods of border residents.

The shared border and access to open waters provide a unique opportunity for economic development and prosperity through strategic cooperation. The economic and trade capacities of both countries are complementary, and with joint efforts, led by the governments and peoples of Iran and Pakistan, relations will flourish.

Close cooperation in international and regional arenas is another key aspect of the relationship between the two countries. They share similar perspectives on many global issues and support each other in various forums, including efforts to fight terrorism and promote peace.

Both countries uphold ethical and religious values in their foreign policies, standing against oppression and supporting causes such as Palestine. Pakistan’s unwavering support for Palestine and condemnation of Zionist crimes have elevated its position among Muslim nations.

In conclusion, the friendship between Iran and Pakistan is enduring and vital. Ambassador Reza Amiri-Moghaddam’s message reflects the commitment of both nations to nurture and strengthen this bond for the prosperity and well-being of their peoples.
