Wicketkeeper-batsman Haseebullah has been called up to replace the injured Azam Khan in the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand, as announced by the national selection committee on Sunday.
The Pakistan Cricket Board released a statement confirming that Haseebullah will join the Pakistan squad after the third T20I match of the series.
Azam Khan was forced out of the T20I series against New Zealand due to a tear in his right calf muscle. The medical advice following radiology reports suggested a 10-day rest period for him to recover from the injury.
The discomfort in Khan’s right calf was initially observed during batting practice in the pre-first T20I training session held at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Haseebullah will now be in contention for selection in the remaining two T20Is, set to take place in Lahore on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. The 21-year-old Haseebullah has previously appeared in a single T20I match against New Zealand earlier this year.
