Karachi Attack
In a chilling development, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) has revealed disturbing findings in their preliminary report on a recent suicide attack in Karachi’s Landhi area, specifically targeting a convoy carrying foreign nationals.
The assault occurred near the Mansehra Colony stop and resulted in the deaths of two terrorists, including the suicide bomber, as well as an injured security guard who later succumbed to his injuries. Additionally, a passer-by and another security guard were injured in the attack.
The targeted vehicle was part of a convoy transporting five Japanese nationals, who all fortunately escaped unharmed, thanks to the swift response of their security detail. The survivors were subsequently moved to a secure location under police protection, according to police spokesperson Abrar Hussain Baloch.
According to the BDS report, the attackers, one of whom detonated an explosive device, were heavily armed. The investigators recovered six hand grenades, four rifle grenades, and a launcher attached to a submachine gun (SMG) from the site.
The deceased bomber’s head and legs were found at the scene, while his accomplice was shot dead, found with a grenade in his pocket and another in his hand, indicating their preparedness for a larger confrontation.
The police have recovered various items from the terrorists, including ball bearings typically used in explosive devices to maximize damage, along with water and petrol bottles, suggesting that the attackers had planned a prolonged operation.
Further investigations by Raja Umar Khattab, head of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), point to the involvement of a separatist organization funded by a neighboring country.
This group is suspected of conducting a two-week reconnaissance operation in the area prior to the attack. The terrorists, identified through CCTV footage, were seen parking their motorcycle near the attack site, waiting for the convoy to approach before launching their attack.
The motorcycle used in the operation was registered under the name of Salman Masih, leading authorities to probe for potential accomplices and the logistical network supporting the terrorists.
Additionally, a mobile phone retrieved from one of the deceased attackers is currently being analyzed by a sensitive agency to gather more intelligence.
This incident has raised alarms over the intricate planning and resources available to separatist groups, particularly with backing from external entities.
