On Tuesday, Bangladesh appointed Mushtaq Ahmed, a former Pakistan leg-spinner and World Cup winner, as the spin-bowling coach for their men’s national cricket team.
Mushtaq is set to join the team prior to the preparatory camp for the upcoming five-match Twenty20 series against Zimbabwe next month. He will collaborate with the Bangladesh squad until the conclusion of the T20 World Cup, which takes place in the West Indies and the United States.
Bangladesh has been seeking a spin-bowling coach since the departure of Sri Lankan Rangana Herath in November. Local coach Sohel Islam temporarily took charge during the recent series against Sri Lanka.
Mushtaq Ahmed served as a spin bowling coach for various cricket teams. He worked with England’s team from 2008 to 2014, then coached the West Indies from 2018 to 2019, and most recently, he was the spin coach for Pakistan’s team from 2020 to 2022.
He served as Pakistan’s bowling consultant from 2014 to 2016. In a statement, 53-year-old Mushtaq expressed his immense pride in being a part of the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin-bowling coach.
“I eagerly anticipate taking on this role and am excited to share my expertise with the players. I find them highly receptive to guidance, and I firmly believe they possess the potential to be among the most formidable teams in the competition.”

From May 3-12, Bangladesh will welcome Zimbabwe for a series of five T20 matches as the host nation. Following this, they will embark on a journey to the United States, where they will participate in a three-match series against the local team and subsequently take part in the T20 World Cup.
