ISLAMABAD: After a series of brief video clips depicting numerous masked men clad in military attire engaging in altercations with police officers in Bahawalnagar circulated widely on social media, the Pakistan Army and Punjab Police have announced their collaborative efforts to investigate the incident, as stated by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Friday.
The military’s communication arm released a statement acknowledging an unfortunate event in Bahawalnagar, which was promptly addressed and resolved through coordinated actions between military and police authorities.
However, the statement highlighted the emergence of divisive propaganda on social media platforms with vested interests, aimed at sowing discord between state institutions and government entities.
In order to conduct a thorough and impartial inquiry into the incident, and to ascertain accountability for any breaches of law or misuse of authority, a joint investigation involving security and police officials will be undertaken to uncover facts and assign responsibility, the statement concluded.
A series of viral videos purportedly depicting individuals in army attire assaulting police personnel in Bahawalnagar drew widespread criticism across various social media platforms.
Subsequently, the Punjab Police denounced the dissemination of “fake propaganda” on social media channels, asserting in a post on X that the situation has been misrepresented and taken out of context.
