PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah has offered conditional support for the release of incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Adiala Jail, citing Pakistan’s inability to endure further instability.
In an interview, Sanaullah highlighted Khan’s purported role in fostering chaos and difficulties in the country over the past decade. He emphasized that prolonged instability under Khan’s leadership would only exacerbate Pakistan’s challenges, underscoring the necessity for a resolution.
Responding to a query regarding his stance on supporting the release of a rival party’s founder, Sanaullah acknowledged a change in perspective. He referenced the recent suspension of the 14-year sentences imposed on Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana reference by the Islamabad High Court, attributing the decision to procedural flaws in the case.
Sanaullah stressed the importance of political stability, lamenting Khan’s purported efforts to disrupt it. He accused Khan of prioritizing personal political gain over the welfare of Pakistan, asserting that Khan’s political presence is detrimental to the country’s interests.
While discussing the potential for Khan to engage in dialogue with the government post-release, Sanaullah indicated openness to the prospect, contingent upon Khan’s willingness to prioritize national interests.
Regarding the recent circulation of threatening letters to judges, Sanaullah dismissed them as a mischievous attempt to discredit law enforcement agencies. He urged a thorough investigation to uncover the perpetrators behind the alleged harassment.
Addressing speculation about internal discord within the PML-N, Sanaullah affirmed his commitment to the party’s democratic principles. He expressed disappointment at being excluded from welcoming party leaders in Faisalabad but reaffirmed his loyalty to parliamentary democracy.
In response to queries about Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s purported plans to launch a new political party, Sanaullah asserted that such endeavors are unnecessary in the current political landscape. However, he acknowledged challenges posed by external forces aiming to destabilize the government post-Eid, emphasizing the need for unity within the party to counter these threats.
