ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, the Islamabad High Court issued an order to eliminate the name of Shireen Mazari, a former PTI leader and ex-Federal Minister for Human Rights, from the Exit Control List.
In accordance with the information provided, Honorable Judge Justice Saman Riffat Imtiaz of the Islamabad High Court presided over the hearing of a petition submitted by Mazari, who requested the removal of her name from the Exit Control List.
The NAB prosecutor, Rafi Maqsood, has informed the court that the National Accountability Bureau suggested removing Shireen Mazari’s name from the Exit Control List in March, as she is not implicated in the £190 million case.
The Assistant Attorney General mentioned that the Prime Minister had conveyed the information via a letter dated March 27.
Justice Saman Riffat Imtiaz stated that the cabinet has other responsibilities to attend to; therefore, he believes the court should handle this particular matter to support the cabinet’s ongoing duties.
Previously, the former PTI leader and ex-Federal Minister for Human Rights, Shireen Mazari, submitted a petition to the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday, requesting the removal of her name from the Exit Control List.
Shortly following the May 9 disturbances of the previous year, the ex-federal minister declared their decision to leave both the PTI party and politics entirely.
On May 23, 2023, Shireen Mazari denounced the May 9 unrest, emphasizing her long-standing stance against violent actions.
She made the choice to leave politics due to her worsening health issues, which started after her 12-day detention following the May 9 riots. During this time, protests occurred nationwide in response to the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan at the court premises in Islamabad.
Previously, the IHC mandated that her name be taken off the Exit Control List. In their December 2nd ruling, the court stated that Mazari had not been classified as a fugitive in any legal matter.
The IHC instructed the Director General of Immigration and Passports to eliminate her name from the Exit Control List, which imposes travel restrictions on individuals.
