ISLAMABAD: Recent reports from Canadian media have shed new light on the case involving Hina Sani, an air hostess with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), who was apprehended in Toronto.
Initially accused of carrying illicit passports, it has been disclosed that Sani was actually in possession of Canadian port stamps, as per the latest findings.
Following her arrival on flight PK-789, Sani was detained in Toronto, with initial reports alleging she possessed multiple passports belonging to unrelated individuals, alongside a drug possession charge.
However, the National Post revealed on Wednesday that Sani was found with two counterfeit port stamps issued by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
These rubber stamps are utilized by border officials to record entry and exit details of individuals from the country.
According to CBSA spokesperson, Sani was found with physical counterfeit port stamps, not mere impressions, within her luggage during examination on March 28, 2024, at Pearson International Airport.
The gravity of this offense surpasses that of passport possession, resulting in Sani facing charges of smuggling, forging instruments, and counterfeiting, as reported by Canadian media outlets.
This development adds to the challenges faced by PIA, which is grappling with financial turmoil and the looming prospect of privatization this year.
Furthermore, the airline has witnessed a concerning trend of cabin crew members departing, particularly in Canada, with several incidents already reported this year.
