PTI Cancels Much-Anticipated April 6 Rally Amid Laylat-ul-Qadr Observance

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to cancel its much-awaited public rally, which was supposed to be held at Islamabad’s Parade Ground on April 6. This decision was announced by PTI Chairman, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, who cited the significance of Laylat-ul-Qadr. It is a blessed night Muslims observe during the last ten days of Ramadan.

Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan also urged supporters to pray for the safety and release of all party members, including PTI founder Imran Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi.

The PTI had initially planned the grand power show at Parade Ground to push for the release of Imran Khan, who has been in custody since August on various charges including corruption and leaking state secrets.

PTI calls off much-hyped April 6 Parade Ground power show

Previously, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had directed authorities to permit PTI to hold public gatherings in the federal capital, affirming the right of assembly.

The decision to call off the power show follows significant relief for PTI from the court, with the IHC suspending the sentences of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq stated that the appeal against their conviction would be heard after the Eid holidays.

In the Toshakhana case, Accountability Court’s Judge Muhammad Bashir sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to 14 years in prison with rigorous punishment, along with a 10-year disqualification for Imran Khan, and a fine of Rs1.57 billion imposed on the couple.

The cancellation of the power show marks a significant turn of events following the legal developments surrounding PTI’s leadership.
