PTI Founder Removes Sher Afzal Marwat from Party Positions Amid Internal Tensions

In a notable development within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), imprisoned party founder Imran Khan has reportedly ousted outspoken MNA Sher Afzal Marwat from prominent party roles.

Insiders familiar with the matter revealed that Khan has decided to oust Sher Afzal Marwat from his roles as a party focal person and from the group responsible for finalizing the list of individuals permitted to meet Khan at Adiala Jail.

Furthermore, Marwat has been directed to dissolve his social media team. These decisions are said to have been made based on recommendations from the PTI core committee.

This recent development adds to a history of controversies surrounding Marwat, who has previously sparked internal discord within the party.

Tensions within PTI ranks escalated last week following what members described as detrimental remarks made by Marwat. The situation intensified during a heated exchange at a core committee meeting, where Marwat faced criticism from multiple members.

Firdous Shamim Naqvi, along with others, raised concerns about Marwat’s behavior, citing his outspoken tendencies as a source of internal division within the party. In response, Marwat lamented what he perceived as a smear campaign against him and expressed frustration at the lack of support from fellow party members.

Core committee members stressed the importance of maintaining party unity and adherence to established narratives, which they claimed Marwat had undermined with his actions. The verbal confrontation necessitated intervention from party leaders such as Ali Mohammad Khan, Naeem Panjutha, and Barrister Gohar to diffuse tensions.

This internal strife unfolds against a backdrop of controversial statements by Marwat, fueling speculation about a lack of consensus within the party. Most recently, a dispute arose between Marwat and Ali Muhammad Khan over allegations of a smear campaign against former cricket captain Shahid Afridi, reportedly propagated by PTI’s social media team.

These recent developments echo a previous directive from Imran Khan in January, instructing Marwat to suspend all political activities due to ongoing disagreements with party leaders ahead of the February 8 polls.
