The PTI decides to abstain from participating in Senate elections in Sindh due to alleged widespread electoral manipulation

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party has declared their decision to not participate in the Senate elections in Sindh, scheduled for April 2, due to claims of extensive electoral manipulation.

“Senate elections are being manipulated to win,” stated PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh during a press conference held in Karachi on Sunday.

The individual mentioned that candidates who won elections, as stated in Form 45, are not included in the Sindh Assembly. This was in response to accusations claiming that PTI-supported contenders faced defeat due to the alleged manipulation of election results in Form 47.

He mentioned that there were six candidates supported by PTI competing in the Senate elections in Sindh; nevertheless, they chose to abstain from participating in the voting process.

The current administration faces potential political downfall, as the speaker mentioned winning 180 seats in the general elections; however, they claim that many of these victories have been disputed.

On a Wednesday, 14 candidates decided to withdraw their nomination papers for the Senate elections in the province. As a result, the Pakistan Peoples Party may secure one of the two reserved women’s seats without facing any competition.

In the recent elections, the PPP has nominated 11 candidates, whereas the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has put forth only one candidate.

The PPP nominees include Syed Masroor Ahsan, Syed Kazim Ali Shah, Jeean Khan Sarfaraz Rajar, Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto, Dost Ali Jessar, Ashraf Ali Jatoi, Sarmad Ali, Zamir Hussain Ghumro, Poonjo, Qurat-ul-Ain Marri, and Rubina Qaimkhani.

The sole MQM-Pakistan candidate competing for the general seat in the upper house of parliament is named Amir Waliuddin Chishti.

An individual not affiliated with any specific political party, Faisal Vawda, who has the support of MQM-P, is participating in the elections for a general Senate seat from Sindh.

In the provincial Senate elections, several independent candidates supported by PTI, including Mehjabeen Riaz, Ali Tahir, Mir Raja Khan Jakhrani, Abdul Wahab, Manzoor Ahmed Bhutta, and Bhagwan Das, have submitted their nomination papers.

Voting for 7 general positions, including 2 for technocrats, 2 for women, and 1 reserved for minorities in the Sindh Senate, will take place at the Sindh Assembly on April 2nd, from 9 am to 4 pm.
