KARACHI: Former Sindh governor and dissatisfied Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Muhammad Zubair has indicated that Ishaq Dar, presently serving as foreign minister, is poised to reclaim the finance ministry.
Speaking on the ARY News ‘Aitraz Ye Hai’ show on Saturday, Zubair disclosed this potential development. Dar, a seasoned politician and four-time former finance minister, was appointed as Pakistan’s foreign minister by PM Shehbaz Sharif, who recently began his second term as PM.
In the interim, Sharif delegated the finance ministry to Muhammad Aurangzeb, the CEO of Pakistan’s largest bank.
Zubair highlighted that Dar’s involvement in finance-related committees signals the PML-N’s intent to consult him on economic matters, implying a potential reinstatement as finance minister.
Furthermore, Dar’s inclusion in the Council of Common Interests (CCI) further fuels speculation about his return to the finance portfolio, despite his current role as foreign minister.
The exclusion of the finance minister from the CCI, while Dar holds a position in it, hints at a potential realignment of ministerial responsibilities.
A notification from the CCI Secretariat, dated March 25, confirms the constitution of the council on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s advice, effective from March 21.
Alongside Sharif and Dar, key figures such as Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and Chief Ministers from various provinces are included in the newly constituted council.
The decision to involve Dar in crucial economic discussions underscores the significance of his expertise and experience in financial matters.
