ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has agreed to restructure the Council of Common Interests (CCI) as of Friday. This reformation involves substituting the Finance Minister with the Foreign Minister.
President Asif Ali Zardari, following the recommendation of Prime Minister Shehbaz, established the eight-member CCI according to Article 153 of the Constitution, as stated in an official announcement. Notably, Prime Minister Shehbaz leads the CCI, and all four chief ministers are included among its esteemed members.
The message indicated that Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and Safron Minister Amir Muqam were also part of the CCI.
The Council of Common Interests (CCI) serves as the primary decision-making body in the nation, addressing and resolving disputes involving crucial aspects such as the allocation of natural resources, where conflicts arise between the central government and provincial entities.
This is not the first occasion where Prime Minister Shehbaz has overlooked the finance minister and assigned a task to Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz established six distinct cabinet committees focused on economic collaboration, energy management, Chinese investment initiatives, privatization, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), and handling legislative matters.
In his choice, the Prime Minister opted to retain the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) under his own jurisdiction. Simultaneously, he assigned Foreign Minister Dar the responsibility of leading the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation.
In the past, these committees typically had the finance minister as their leader. Following recent criticism, Prime Minister Shehbaz made changes to the ECC and appointed Finance Minister Aurangzeb to oversee the crucial economic organization.
