Neeraj Chopra Expresses Concern as Arshad Nadeem Struggles to Obtain New Javelin

New Javelin

Indian Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has expressed his dismay over the difficulties faced by his Pakistani counterpart in acquiring a new javelin, despite his notable achievements in the sporting world.

Speaking to SAI Media, Chopra highlighted the surprising challenge encountered by the Pakistani athlete, emphasizing that given his impressive track record, such hurdles should not pose a major concern.

Chopra, renowned for his prowess in track and field, currently holds the title of world champion and clinched gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, where he competed against Pakistan’s top javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem.

Although Nadeem did not secure an Olympic medal, he made history by claiming a javelin silver at the World Athletics Championships the previous year.

Moreover, he achieved gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with an impressive throw of 90.18 meters. Despite their competitive rivalry, Chopra and Nadeem maintain a cordial relationship off the field.

Reports indicate that Nadeem recently voiced his frustration regarding the challenges he has faced in obtaining an international-standard javelin for several years. Reacting to this revelation, Chopra stressed the importance of Nadeem receiving support from the Pakistani government.

Acknowledging Nadeem’s stature as a champion athlete, Chopra suggested that while Nadeem may have resources from brand endorsements and personal earnings, governmental support is crucial.

Chopra, a beneficiary of the Indian government’s Target Olympics Podium Scheme (TOPS), emphasized the need for Nadeem’s government to assist him similarly.

In a gesture of solidarity, Chopra praised Nadeem as a “top javelin thrower” and suggested that javelin manufacturers would be eager to sponsor him. He offered this advice as a means of supporting Nadeem in overcoming his equipment challenges.

Chopra’s remarks underscore the camaraderie and mutual respect shared among athletes across borders, emphasizing the importance of collective support in overcoming obstacles and fostering excellence in sports.
