Shabnim Ismail Makes History: Sets New Fastest Ball Record in Women’s Cricket at 130 kmph

Shabnim Ismail, the trailblazing South African cricketer and the lone Muslim woman representing her country in international cricket, has scripted a historic chapter in the annals of women’s cricket. Renowned for her fiery pace, Shabnim recently bowled the fastest ball ever recorded in women’s cricket, clocking an astounding speed of 130 kilometers per hour (kmph).

The groundbreaking feat unfolded during a gripping Women’s Premier League match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, a clash that showcased Shabnim’s exceptional skills on the cricket field. As a pivotal member of the Mumbai Indians squad, she delivered a momentous second ball of the third over at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi, targeting none other than Australian captain Meg Lanning. The delivery, recorded at an impressive 132.1 kmph, found its mark by striking Lanning’s pads, underscoring Shabnim’s prowess as a formidable fast bowler.

This accomplishment is not Shabnim’s first foray into the realm of record-breaking speed. Her journey to the fastest ball in women’s cricket began in 2016 when she bowled at 128 kmph against West Indies. Moreover, during the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Women’s World Cup, she consistently demonstrated her pace by recording speeds of 127 kmph on two separate occasions.

At 35 years old, Shabnim Ismail continues to defy the conventional norms associated with age in sports, showcasing her enduring passion and commitment to cricket. Her latest achievement not only elevates her status as a cricketing icon but also serves as a source of inspiration for aspiring female cricketers globally.

Shabnim’s journey to cricketing stardom includes previous records and milestones, contributing to her legacy as a trailblazer in women’s cricket. As the only Muslim woman to have played international cricket for South Africa, Shabnim Ismail’s remarkable career underscores her resilience, skill, and the pivotal role she plays in advancing the prominence of women in the sport.
