LAHORE: PTI leader Alia Shehzad faced arrest upon her arrival at Lahore International Airport from Saudi Arabia, linked to the May 9 violence case. This incident unfolded in the aftermath of the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan, resulting in attacks on military installations.
The arrest of Ali Shehzad was executed based on a case registered at Sarwar Road Police Station, specifically tied to the May 9 vandalism. She was taken into custody by police officials and subsequently moved to Lytton Road Police Station for a more in-depth investigation.
In a significant development earlier, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted interim bail to PTI founder Imran Khan in four cases related to the May 9 events and other related incidents.
The court confirmed interim bail concerning the attack on police near Zaman Park, the murder of PTI activist Zille Shah, the burning of the PML-N office in Model Town, and the destruction of a container at Kalma Chowk. This confirmation hinged on Imran Khan’s submission of surety bonds amounting to Rs 500,000.
The May 9 violence marked widespread clashes across Pakistan following Imran Khan’s arrest in 2023. Protests erupted in both remote and major cities as party workers expressed deep discontent over their chairman’s detention.
Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad called upon the armed forces to maintain law and order. The protests escalated into attacks on army installations, including the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore, by PTI workers, amplifying the gravity of the situation and prompting a thorough investigation into the series of events leading up to and following May 9.
