Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif extended his congratulations to Ayaz Sadiq on his election as the National Assembly speaker, highlighting Sadiq’s experience and capabilities as a seasoned politician. Shehbaz emphasized that Sadiq’s election for the third time sets a unique example and expressed the party’s commitment to actively contribute to fostering democracy in the country.
Earlier, PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq secured a significant victory in the National Assembly speaker election, despite the chaotic atmosphere marked by noisy protests from the opposition Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf announced the results of the secret ballot voting, revealing that Sadiq received 199 votes out of the 291 total cast, while his opponent, SIC’s Malik Aamir Dogar, garnered 91 votes. One vote was rejected during the counting process.
Following the announcement, Ayaz Sadiq displayed a gesture of sportsmanship by crossing over to greet his opponent, Dogar, in a display of unity despite political differences. Notably, 13 members of the assembly abstained from voting, including eight from the JUI-F who boycotted the election process, as well as independent candidate Khawaja Shiraz, BNP-Mengalโs Sardar Akhtar Mengal, PML-Nโs Yasmeen Nelson, and a member from MQM-P.
