Security Challenge
Prince Harry faced a legal setback as the UK High Court ruled against him in his challenge against the government’s decision to alter the level of his personal security detail during visits to the country.
The court’s decision followed the Duke of Sussex’s legal action against the UK government in response to a notification in February 2020, announcing a reduction in publicly-funded protection during his visits to Britain.
High Court judge Peter Lane, in a comprehensive 52-page judgment, upheld the government’s decision, deeming the security process devised for Prince Harry legally sound.
The ruling is significant as it addresses the Duke’s concerns about security during his return visits to the UK, emphasizing the importance of safety for himself, Meghan, and their children in their homeland.
However, the court’s decision aligns with the government’s argument that Prince Harry, having stepped back from his role as a working royal and residing primarily abroad, no longer warrants the same level of security.
This legal battle over security is just one of several ongoing litigations involving Prince Harry. Earlier this month, he settled a lawsuit against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) over alleged deceptive practices.
Despite the settlement, Prince Harry continues legal action against various UK media outlets over similar claims.
Additionally, he and actor Hugh Grant are engaged in lawsuits against News Group Newspapers (NGN). Prince Harry is also part of a group, including Elton John, pursuing legal action against the publisher of the Daily Mail.
Amid this legal saga, Prince Harry recently dropped his libel case against the Mail on Sunday regarding an article on his legal battles with the UK government.
