In an act of terrorism, a superintendent of police lost his life during an attack on policemen in the Katlang area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mardan district on Tuesday.
The deceased SP has been identified as Aijaz Khan, as confirmed by the police. Additionally, Deputy Superintendent of Police Naseem Khan, along with officers Mansoor and Saleem, sustained injuries in the assault.
Rescue 1122 personnel swiftly transported the casualties to MMC Hospital for medical attention.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan. On February 8, during the country’s elections, four police officials were killed in an attack on a police patrol in Dera Ismail Khan.
Earlier, on February 5, terrorists armed with “Indian weapons” targeted a police station in Dera Ismail Khan, resulting in the deaths of ten officers and injuries to six others, according to police reports.
The eve of the general elections was marked by tragic events as well, with back-to-back blasts outside election offices in Balochistan’s Qila Saifullah and Pishin, claiming the lives of at least 28 individuals.
The KP Police inspector general shed light on the rationale behind terrorists targeting the police force in the province.
He explained that militants perceive the police as soft and prime targets due to their identifiable ranks, uniforms, and mobile vans, making them vulnerable to attacks.
