Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Shazia Marri has called upon President Dr Arif Alvi to promptly convene a session of the National Assembly in accordance with the prime minister’s summary, emphasizing the paramount importance of upholding constitutional obligations.
Marri underscored the necessity of prioritizing adherence to the constitution over personal interests, urging the president to refrain from any unconstitutional actions. She cautioned against historical instances where presidential powers were misused to dissolve the assembly, emphasizing the need for President Alvi to uphold constitutional integrity.
The PPP stalwart warned that any deviation from constitutional norms or misuse of presidential authority would be documented in history, urging President Alvi to exercise restraint and uphold the rule of law.
In a separate development, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a notification confirming the nomination of PPP’s female leaders, Sharmila Farooqui and Sahar Kamran, as elected members of the National Assembly on reserved seats. This follows the resignation of PPP members Shazia Murri and Nafisa Shah from their reserved seats after winning the general elections.
Furthermore, the ECP also issued a notification acknowledging the successful independent candidate Khizr Hussain Mazari from the Punjab Assembly seat PP 297.
