PTI Asserts Constitutional Right to Govern Amid Coalition Dynamics

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has asserted its constitutional right to form governments in the Centre, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), citing the public mandate received by the Imran Khan-led party in the 2024 general elections.

In a statement on Twitter, PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan emphasized the critical importance of upholding the Constitution for the nation’s future. He underscored that Pakistan has historically faced crises whenever it deviated from constitutional principles.

Despite facing challenges such as the denial of their iconic symbol, the bat, PTI emerged as the single largest party in the elections. Barrister Gohar lamented the constraints faced during the election campaign, labeling any manipulation of the public mandate as a violation of the voters’ trust.

He demanded that the Election Commission issue results in accordance with Form-45 and insisted that seats allegedly “snatched” from PTI be rightfully returned, affirming PTI’s commitment to safeguarding the public mandate and ensuring political stability for Pakistan’s development.

The PTI’s stance comes in response to the recent agreement between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to form a government at the federal level. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari announced the coalition’s ability to secure the required majority, indicating Shehbaz Sharif’s potential return as the country’s prime minister.

Despite the PTI-backed independent candidates leading in the general elections, the party and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) failed to secure a simple majority to form the government at the Centre.

As political stakeholders continue their efforts to forge alliances and secure parliamentary seats, the aftermath of the 2024 elections underscores the complex landscape of Pakistani politics and the ongoing pursuit of power-sharing arrangements among key political entities.
