Broadcast Rights
Pakistan Television (PTV) has firmly rejected assertions made by private broadcaster ARY regarding the acquisition of broadcasting rights for the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The spokesperson for PTV emphasized that the national broadcaster operates within defined limits and adheres to its designated role.
According to the spokesperson, ARY’s offer for PTV Sports was deemed unacceptable and subsequently declined. The Ministry of Information has reportedly kept the relevant standing committee informed about its endeavors to secure the broadcast rights for PSL 9.
The spokesperson underlined that the standing committee, during its discussions, acknowledged and commended the efforts made by PTV and the Ministry of Information in pursuing the broadcasting rights for PSL 9. It was emphasized that the rejection of ARY’s offer was a result of its inadequacy and did not reflect any bias or inappropriate behavior.
Contrary to ARY’s claims, the spokesperson clarified that there was no discussion regarding ARY during the Senate’s Standing Committee meeting on Information and Broadcasting. The spokesperson firmly asserted that the allegations raised by ARY against PTV had no factual basis.
This rebuttal by PTV comes amid a media dispute regarding the broadcasting rights for PSL, highlighting the competitive dynamics within the media industry.
PTV’s emphasis on adhering to its designated role as a national broadcaster and the rejection of ARY’s offer underscore the complexities surrounding broadcasting agreements for major sports events in Pakistan. As the situation unfolds, clarity on the broadcasting landscape for PSL 9 is expected to emerge through further discussions and negotiations.
