Former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized the importance of adhering to prescribed rules during coalition talks between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). In a statement shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Dar underscored that members and leaders of the coordination committees from both parties must refrain from commenting on the progress of ongoing discussions or the points under deliberation.
Dar clarified that while some proposals have been discussed, the final points of agreement between the two parties have not yet been resolved. He noted that consultations on various proposals continued until the previous day, highlighting the dedication of both sides to finding common ground.
The former finance minister informed that four consultations have been completed, with the fifth session scheduled for Monday, February 19. He expressed optimism regarding significant progress expected at the upcoming meeting and indicated that a joint official announcement would follow the conclusion of consultations.
Dar reiterated the importance of adhering to the agreed-upon procedure, emphasizing that it is not appropriate to discuss details before the completion of consultations. He stressed the need for mutual respect for the process and commitment to confidentiality until a consensus is reached.
The statement from Ishaq Dar reflects the seriousness and diligence with which both the PML-N and the PPP are approaching coalition talks. By outlining the agreed-upon rules and procedures, Dar aims to ensure transparency and professionalism in the negotiation process. As the parties navigate the complexities of forming a coalition, Dar’s guidance underscores the significance of constructive dialogue and mutual respect in reaching a mutually beneficial agreement for both sides and, ultimately, for the nation.
