LAHORE: On Saturday, the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) reportedly laid out specific conditions for the establishment of the central government.
Sources indicate that PML-N has proposed a condition wherein all coalition parties should be integrated into the cabinet for two consecutive terms of 2.5 years each. Anticipating discussions in today’s meeting with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), PML-N is expected to formally present these conditions.
The senior leadership of PML-N has advised both Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif to tie the formation of the government to the inclusion of all coalition parties in the cabinet. This move aims to foster a more inclusive and collaborative governance approach.
In a significant political development, Asif Ali Zardari, co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), hinted at the possibility of “another wide-ranging consensus” among the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), PML-Q, and MQM to form a coalition government akin to the PDM in the Centre.
A notable joint press conference featured leaders from major political parties in Pakistan, including PML-N, PML-Q, PPP, and MQM-P, alongside Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani and Aleem Khan of IPP. During the conference, they expressed a collective commitment to working together to navigate Pakistan through its current challenges, emphasizing unity in the face of shared objectives.
In another development, Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatha resigned from his post, citing alleged rigging in the 2024 elections. During a press conference, Chatha took responsibility for election rigging, admitting that candidates who were initially leading with substantial margins were declared losers due to fake seals under his oversight.
He apologized to his subordinates, acknowledging the distress caused by the directive to engage in election rigging. This resignation underscores the significance of transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
