Marwat Asserts Supreme Court’s Capability to Address Election Matters in One Day

Election

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat asserted on Friday that the upcoming protest by his party on Saturday would not see the participation of any other political group. Additionally, Marwat suggested that if the Supreme Court of Pakistan desires, it can swiftly resolve the controversy surrounding the recent elections in a single day.

Speaking in an interview with Shaukat Piracha, Marwat acknowledged the political process involving contacts between the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and PTI. He highlighted the historically strained relationship between Maulana Fazal ur Rehman and Imran Khan, stating that the PTI had not heard anything positive from Maulana in the past.

Marwat noted that recent events seemed to be bringing the two parties closer, especially as Maulana expressed views aligning with PTI’s stance on rigged elections. He mentioned that the intention behind the PTI delegation’s visit to JUI was to explore the possibility of collaboration.

The PTI leader emphasized the party’s belief in uniting all democratic forces against election rigging and condemned what he referred to as a “rule of jungle” in Pakistan that needs to end.

Regarding the allegations of digital alterations to Form 45 by PMLN, Marwat proposed a transparent resolution by submitting both parties’ Form 45 to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for forensic examination by NADRA. He argued that thumb impressions on the forms cannot be counterfeited.

Marwat accused PMLN of pursuing power at any cost and claimed that PTI, guided by principles rather than power lust, could have formed a government with PPP if it were solely seeking authority.

Regarding the ongoing controversy over election results, Marwat suggested that the issue could be expeditiously resolved by either the ECP or the higher judiciary. He believed that the Supreme Court, if committed to upholding the rule of law, could settle the matter in a single day. Marwat proposed sending all Form 45 to the ECP for verification and called for a comprehensive report on genuine and fake forms.

In conclusion, Marwat noted that Imran Khan had chosen not to pursue a long march at this time, preferring to initiate protests across the entire country first.
