PML-N Leader Claims Gen Bajwa Urged Withdrawal of Vote of No Confidence (VONC)

Vote of No Confidence

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) leader Malik Ahmad Khan has refuted allegations suggesting that General Qamar Bajwa, the former army chief, supported the vote of no-confidence (VONC) against Imran Khan. Contrary to claims circulating, Khan asserted that General Bajwa actually urged for the withdrawal of the motion.

Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Malik Ahmad Khan disclosed details of a meeting that took place in March 2022 at B-Mess near the Punjab House, involving General Bajwa and members of multiple political parties. During this meeting, Khan stated that the former army chief attempted to influence the parties to retract their support for the impending no-confidence vote.

Khan went on to describe General Bajwa as “Imran’s representative,” insinuating a perceived alignment between the former army chief and the Prime Minister. The PMLN leader highlighted that the political parties present at the meeting resisted General Bajwa’s proposition to withdraw the no-confidence vote.

These revelations come in the wake of Maulana Fazal ur Rehman’s recent claim that the vote leading to Imran Khan’s ousting from power had the support of General Bajwa and Lt General Faiz Hameed. Fazal alleged that the two generals had engaged with opposition parties, providing guidance on the strategic approach for the vote.

Contradicting Maulana’s assertions, sources close to General Bajwa and Lt General Faiz Hameed have reportedly denied these claims. The situation has added a layer of complexity to the already intricate political landscape, raising questions about the role of military figures in Pakistan’s political processes.

As these conflicting narratives unfold, the veracity of the allegations and the extent of military involvement in the political sphere continue to be subjects of scrutiny and debate.
