The ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) ushered in excitement as the tournament’s trophy was unveiled at Lahore’s Polo Ground of Race Course Park on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The ceremony saw the presence of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, franchise owners, HBL representatives, and star cricketers.
The newly revealed trophy, named the “Orion Trophy,” was described as crafted from pure silver and coated in white gold. Naqvi expressed optimism, stating that the PSL continues to be a success story for Pakistan cricket. As the Orion trophy was unveiled, Naqvi looked forward to a month-long celebration of cricket’s beauty, excitement, and drama.
Franchise owners also shared their anticipation for the upcoming tournament. Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal expressed confidence in his team’s ability to “turn the tables” with breathtaking performances. Lahore Qalandars CEO Atif Rana aimed for a hat-trick of triumphs, having won the last two editions.
Islamabad United owner Ali Naqvi spoke of excitement and grand triumph, emphasizing a strong team lineup and the eagerness to win hearts at the home ground in Rawalpindi. Multan Sultans owner Ali Khan Tareen stressed the importance of maintaining consistency in performances.
Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi assured fans that his team, led by Babar Azam, would continue playing an attacking style of cricket. Quetta Gladiators owner Nadeem Omar acknowledged past struggles but expressed determination to showcase resilience and fight in the upcoming season.
The PSL’s ninth edition is scheduled to commence on February 17 in Lahore, featuring a match between two-time winners and defending champions Lahore Qalandars and past champions Islamabad United. The tournament will unfold across four cities – Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi – with the final slated for March 18 at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.
