WhatsApp’s Latest Feature Empowers Users to Combat Spam Directly from Lock Screen

Meta-owned WhatsApp has introduced a convenient new feature enabling users to block spam messages directly from their phone’s lock screen. This initiative addresses the persistent issue of spam inundating users’ inboxes, aiming to provide greater control over their messaging experience.

Spam messages have long been a nuisance for WhatsApp users, inundating them with unwanted content such as advertisements and scams. With this latest feature, WhatsApp aims to bolster user privacy and security while streamlining the messaging process.

Here’s a breakdown of how it functions: When a spam message appears on the lock screen, users can now long-press on it to access options, including blocking the sender then and there, without needing to unlock their phones or open the app. WhatsApp also encourages users to report troublesome senders.

Moreover, WhatsApp already notifies users about unfamiliar numbers, offering options to add, block, or report them. For those who wish to be proactive about blocking, there’s an option to navigate to Settings > Privacy > Blocked contacts > Add, and select the desired contacts to block.

Regarding privacy concerns: Currently, WhatsApp mandates users to register their phone numbers, which means anyone possessing their digits can initiate a conversation. Nevertheless, the company is exploring methods to facilitate user connections without necessitating number exchange.

Additionally, WhatsApp is preparing to introduce cross-platform messaging, enabling users from different messaging apps to engage with WhatsApp users. A new segment called “Third-Party Chats” will be incorporated into the app’s home screen, neatly segregating messages from other platforms from WhatsApp’s encrypted chats.
