In response to the 10-year sentence handed down to former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the cipher case, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif criticized Khan, accusing him of compromising national security to protect his rule.
Speaking at an election rally in Haroonabad, Nawaz Sharif praised the large crowd and claimed that despite facing oppression, he had never revealed state secrets or compromised national security. He accused Imran Khan of attacking the country’s integrity to save his rule.
Nawaz Sharif highlighted his accomplishments during previous tenures, claiming credit for controlling inflation, fuel rates, and load shedding, as well as providing relief to farmers and the public.
He stated that during his government, corruption decreased, and the country got rid of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He contrasted this with the PTI government, claiming that corruption increased during their tenure.
Maryam Nawaz, also speaking at the rally, praised the sentencing of Imran Khan in the cipher case and criticized the PTI founder for celebrating when Nawaz Sharif was sentenced in the Panama case. She accused Imran Khan of playing with national security and stated that the PTI should be treated like terrorists.
Nawaz Sharif, who recently returned to Pakistan after nearly four years of exile, hopes to boost the PML-N’s prospects in the upcoming general elections. The PML-N has fielded candidates for a significant number of seats in the National Assembly and various legislatures.
