Electoral Participation
In a significant development, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court has granted permission for Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Chairman of the Balochistan National Party, to actively participate in the forthcoming general elections. The verdict was delivered by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez, leading the bench, after dismissing an appeal that challenged the approval of Mengal’s nomination papers.
The appeal, lodged by Yasir Ahmed, sought to contest the acceptance of Sardar Akhtar Mengal’s nomination papers. Initially rejected by the Returning Officer, the decision was later overturned by the Election Tribunal, a ruling subsequently upheld by the High Court.
Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, while delivering the judgment, emphasized the court’s reluctance to interfere in matters related to the factual aspects of election cases. This decision opens the way for Sardar Akhtar Mengal to stand as a candidate in the upcoming general elections, scheduled for February 8.
This development aligns with a series of similar decisions by the Supreme Court, wherein approval was granted for various candidates, including notable figures like PTI President Pervaiz Elahi, Sanam Javed, Major (Rtd) Tahir Sadiq, Umar Aslam, Shaukat Basra, and others.
Sardar Akhtar Mengal’s inclusion in the list of eligible candidates adds another layer of anticipation to the approaching general elections. As political dynamics continue to evolve, the decisions of the Supreme Court play a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of the electoral process.
The nation now eagerly awaits the unfolding events as political contenders gear up for the imminent elections, recognizing the crucial influence of the Supreme Court in defining the contours of the electoral arena. Overall, supreme court three-member bench approves Sardar Akhtar Mengal’s electoral participation in upcoming general elections.
