Moin Khan Emerges as Contender in the Race for PCB Chairmanship: Sources

PCB Chairmanship

KARACHI: Following the resignation of Zaka Ashraf as PCB chairman, former Pakistan cricket team captain Moin Khan has thrown his hat into the ring for the chairmanship of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Saturday, citing insider sources.

Insiders suggest that Moin Khan has initiated discussions with government officials and is expected to visit Islamabad on Monday. The anticipation is that he will be officially nominated as a candidate for the PCB’s governing board. Simultaneously, the name of former PCB chairman Najam Sethi is also under consideration for the chairmanship.

To ensure a fair and transparent election process for the PCB chairman, an interim management committee known as the Transitional Managing Committee is set to be established soon. This committee will play a crucial role in overseeing the election proceedings and facilitating a smooth transition in the chairmanship of the cricket board.

The recent resignation of Zaka Ashraf, who served as the PCB Management Committee chairman, marked a significant development. Sources informed that Ashraf submitted his resignation as Chairman of the Management Committee and Member of the Board of Governors (BoG).

In his statement, Ashraf cited his commitment to the betterment of Pakistan cricket but expressed dissatisfaction with the working conditions, stating that he could not effectively operate in such circumstances. Additionally, he emphasized that the nomination of a new chairman is not solely the prerogative of the prime minister.

As the race for the PCB chairmanship gains momentum, the cricketing community awaits the formal nomination of candidates and the establishment of the Transitional Managing Committee to oversee the upcoming election process.
