Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has raised concerns over the alleged censorship during a live cricket broadcast on Pakistan Television (PTV), claiming that the transmission was abruptly cut after a spectator displayed a poster of Imran Khan during the fourth T20 international between Pakistan and New Zealand.
A screengrab posted on PTI’s X account captured the moment when a spectator held a poster of Imran Khan with the caption ‘Legend of the legends.’ However, the broadcast was interrupted, switching to PTV’s logo on the screen after the spectator appeared for a brief moment during the sixth over of the match.
The party took to X, questioning the sudden interruption and wrote, “Anyone knows why PTV suddenly stopped streaming the cricket match when they realized Imran Khanโs poster was being shown?”
PTI leader Taimur Saleem Jhagra also shared a video demonstrating the TV screen cutting away from the poster of Imran Khan. He expressed his astonishment at PTV’s action, stating, “Game toh on hai, but can PTV not bear a single poster of Imran Khan at a cricket match? This is 2024. These are the tactics that are rallying the entire nation behind Imran Khan.”
Imran Khan, currently in Adiala Jail after facing arrest in multiple cases, including a cipher case under the Official Secrets Act, has been a focal point of political controversy. Despite obtaining bail in some cases, he remains entangled in ongoing corruption trials.
Additionally, Khan’s visibility on TV screens has diminished since last year, with his face and name being systematically removed from broadcasts. The incident at the cricket match has added fuel to political tensions and intensified debates over freedom of expression and media censorship.
