China Introduces fully funded scholarships for students

The Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) is currently accepting applications for the academic session 2024-2025 in China, providing fully funded opportunities for global candidates pursuing undergraduate, Master’s, and Ph.D. degrees.

Open to students worldwide, this scholarship covers tuition, living expenses, and other essentials, demonstrating China’s commitment to global education and cross-cultural collaboration. The SGS, involving 34 Chinese universities, aims to support international students in pursuing higher education in the vibrant city of Shanghai.

Starting from the academic year 2024-2025, the Shanghai Government Scholarship offers comprehensive coverage, including tuition, accommodation, health insurance, and other necessary expenses. Established in 2006, the SGS seeks to enhance international education development in Shanghai, attracting a diverse array of global students and contributing to the city’s status as a global educational hub.

The scholarship supports Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. programs across 34 participating universities in China, providing full funding and accessibility to students of all nationalities. The application deadline for this significant opportunity is March 31, 2024, allowing international students to pursue higher education in diverse academic disciplines.

Applicants for the Shanghai Government Scholarship 2024 are required to submit essential documents, including a passport photocopy, attested copies of all degrees and transcripts, a certificate of physical or medical examination, and a blood report photocopy. Proficiency in either Chinese or English must be demonstrated through a language proficiency certificate. Additional documents such as a study plan, research proposal, letter of intent, statement of purpose, or Ph.D. thesis abstract are encouraged. Thorough documentation submission is vital for successful consideration of this fully funded scholarship.

Eligibility criteria for the Shanghai Government Scholarship 2024 include non-Chinese citizenship, good health, and age-appropriate qualifications for the chosen program. Age limits are specified for undergraduates (25), master’s programs (35), and Ph.D. programs (40). Outstanding academic performance, proficiency in Chinese (HSK4), and meeting language requirements of the selected university are essential criteria. Applicants for pre-college programs should be under 23 and hold a high school degree. Individuals with existing Chinese government or organizational scholarships are ineligible for SGS application, and meeting university and program entry requirements is crucial.

The application process for the Shanghai Government Scholarship involves a streamlined online procedure. Applicants should initiate the process on the official SGS Portal (http://study.edu.sh.gov.cn/apply/). Subsequent steps include applying on the chosen university’s portal and submitting two sets of documents in hard form to the selected university. This dual-application process, combining online and physical document submission, ensures a comprehensive and efficient application for the Shanghai Government Scholarship.
