Amidst a shortage of skilled nursing staff and experts in Germany, the country may require approximately 500,000 foreign nurses by 2030, as reported by Y-Axis.
In response to this need, the German Federal Employment Agency introduced the Triple Win Programme in 2013 to facilitate the migration of trained foreign nurses to Germany.
The program aims to recruit qualified nurses from other countries to address the shortages in the nursing workforce. Licensed nurses who participate in the program are required to undergo technical and language training to practice in Germany.

Upon completing the necessary training, nurses not only find job opportunities in Germany but also receive support for personal and professional development. The formal recognition of their credentials is typically completed within a year of their arrival.
Eligible applicants for the “Triple Win” program must have graduated from accredited nursing institutions, be at least 18 years old, and provide proof of a German language proficiency level of at least B1 at the time of visa application.
While the initial visa is valid for one year, it can be converted into a residence permit once nurses successfully pass the B2 exam and complete the recognition process in Germany. After five years, visa holders can further convert their status to a permanent resident permit.
This initiative not only addresses the immediate staffing needs but also contributes to the long-term integration of skilled professionals into the German healthcare system.
