Zahid Nihari, a renowned restaurant in Karachi, has achieved global recognition by securing a place among the “100 Most Legendary Restaurants” worldwide.
The accolade was bestowed by TasteAtlas, a prominent global food review publication, which ranked Zahid Nihari at the 89th position on its list of recommended restaurants for food enthusiasts in 2024.
The introduction on the website highlighted Zahid Nihari’s expertise in preparing nihari, a slow-cooked beef stew celebrated for its rich flavors and tender meat, all served in a straightforward, unpretentious environment.
Established in 1974, Javed Nihari, the founder of the restaurant, has made it a landmark in Karachi for traditional Pakistani cuisine, situated on Tariq Road.
Figlmรผller, located in Vienna, Austria, secured the top spot on the list due to its century-long specialization in serving the Schnitzel Wiener Art. Notably, four Indian restaurants also earned a place on the prestigious list.
Dubai To Host Jashn-E-Rekhta: A Celebration Of Urdu Literature On January 27
Meanwhile, Dubai is poised to welcome the two-day Urdu literary festival, Jashn-e-Rekhta, featuring luminaries from Pakistan and India. The cultural extravaganza, scheduled for January 27 and 28, will showcase a rich tapestry of Urdu literature, including poetry, talk shows, ghazals, and storytelling.
The festivalโs inaugural day at Zabeel Park on January 27 will commence with a panel discussion titled โUrdu Tehzeeb aur Rishton ki Lazzat Ki Lazzatโ featuring Bollywood lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar alongside Pakistani human rights activist Arfa Sayeda Zehra.

Moderated by Adeel Hashmi, the discussion will set the tone for the festival, followed by a stage rendition of Ismat Chughtaiโs Urdu play, โDozakh,โ and a Sufi concert titled โNaghmoโn ki Maseehaiiโ by Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan. The day will culminate with the portrayal of legendary singer Noor Jehan in โRaqs-e-Naa Tammamโ and a session of Sufi music titled โShab-e Rafta.โ
The second and final day will feature a talk show with iconic Pakistani film industry couple Sameena Peerzada and Usmaan Peerzada, sharing their journey through challenges. Following this, an interactive session, โKahaani se Kirdaar Tak,โ will bring together Pakistani actress Mahira Khan and veteran Indian actress Shabana Azmi in conversation with renowned Indian filmmaker and actor Shekhar Kapur.
The day will progress with the event โMain Koi Aisa Geet Gaauโn,โ incorporating poetry, songs, narration, and music featuring Javed Akhtar, Meiyang Chang, and Jahnvi Shrimankar with a live band. The festival will conclude with a grand international mushaira titled โGehan aur Dhoop,โ featuring renowned poets Anwar Shaoor, Farhat Ehsad, Zehra Nigah, Shakeel Azmi, Abbas Tabish, among others.
Anticipating 15,000 visitors, the festival marks Dubaiโs growing influence in hosting Urdu literary events, with tickets priced at Dh75, inclusive of the Zabeel Park entry fee, available for purchase on the Platinum List.
