RAWALPINDI: According to sources, in response to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references against Imran Khan, a specialized prosecution team has been established to address the Toshakhana and National Crime Agency (NCA) scandal involving 190 million.
Sardar Mazhar Abbas is set to lead the five-member prosecution team, which also includes NAB prosecutor Irfan Ahmed, Sohail Arif, Barrister Owais Arshad, and Amjad Pervaiz. The team has reportedly initiated proceedings on NAB references in both cases.
Earlier, NAB filed a reference with the Accountability Court against Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi regarding the Toshakhana case. The NAB Rawalpindi, through prosecutor Sohail Arif and Investigation Officer Mohsin Haroon, submitted the reference to the Registrarโs Office, where further action would be taken after scrutinizing the case.

The Toshakhana reference alleges that Imran Khan failed to disclose details of gifts retained from the Toshakhana during his tenure as prime minister. Lawmakers from the ruling coalition filed the reference last year, leading to a major political controversy after the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified the PTI chief for making false statements and incorrect declarations.
The ECP judgment specified that Imran Khan engaged in corrupt practices under sections 167 and 173 of the constitution. A criminal proceeding was slated to be initiated against him for filing a false statement.
The detailed judgment emphasized that he was disqualified under Article 63, 1(P) for his current parliament membership. The ECP decision revealed discrepancies in the declaration of cash and bank details, ultimately resulting in Imran Khan’s disqualification and removal from his National Assembly seat.
Subsequently, NAB launched a probe against the former prime minister in the Toshakhana case on March 9.
