Election Buzz: Maulana Fazlur Rehman Announces Candidacy for NA-265 Pishin

NA-265 Pishin

JUI Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has declared his candidacy for NA-265 Pishin in the upcoming general elections, responding to the insistence of Balochistan residents and JUI workers. The decision has garnered gratitude from the people of Balochistan, with Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, representing the central media cell of JUI-F, expressing optimism for a significant victory and urging party members to intensify election preparations.

As the nation officially entered the election season on December 20, over 1,000 candidates obtained nomination papers from returning officers (ROs) across the country. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) concurrently issued the Election Code of Conduct, setting the stage for the political fervor that will culminate on February 8 next year when millions will cast their ballots.

Nomination papers, spanning general and reserved seats for minorities and women in both the National and provincial assemblies, were sought by candidates from various parties and independents. Despite a modest number of papers submitted on the initial day, notably in Karachi and Jhelum district, the filing process continues until Friday, with the JUI advocating for a three-day extension.

Nomination paper submissions will persist until December 22, while the deadline for filing appeals against RO decisions is January 3, 2024, with resolutions by January 10. The ECP’s election plan emphasizes establishing polling stations for a minimum of 1,200 voters, with a maximum of four polling booths spaced at least one kilometer apart. DROs are urged to prioritize voter convenience in operating polling stations.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s electoral bid adds a dynamic element to the unfolding election narrative, setting the stage for a competitive political landscape in NA-265 Pishin.
